Scientists develop India’s 1st Indigenous MRI Machine

MRI machine is an excellent diagnostic tool for the detection of various diseases by providing precise contrast resolution.

In a breakthrough to ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives of the government, Indian scientists have successfully developed India’s first superconducting magnet system used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines at New Delhi’s Inter-Univesity Accelerator Centre(IUAC) led by the director of Allahabad University, Prof. Avinash Pandey.

The MRI machine is used to take images of any body part for the detection of diseases.
This is nothing less than India making its cryogenic engine, or state-of-the-art weaponry.

At present, India completely depends on countries like China for the import of MRI machines to our country. The IUAC has broken barriers and created a 1.5 Tesla superconducting MRI magnet system, which is the heart of the MRI machine.

With indigenous MRI technology, the cost of MRI scanning will go down considerably for the common man. Thus allowing a wider section of people to have convenient access to the otherwise highly-priced MRI scans. Additionally, the capital investment for the procurement of MRI scanners from the international market will be substantially reduced. This in turn will save a lot of foreign exchange.
